Microsoft Research India, which began operating in January 2005, conducts basic research in computing and engineering sciences relevant to Microsoft’s business and the global IT community, with a special focus on algorithms, cryptography, security, mobility, networks and systems, multilingual systems, software engineering, machine learning, and the role of technology in socioeconomic development.

Gautam Shroff

Dr.Gautam Shroff is Vice President & Chief Scientist, Tata Consultancy Services and heads TCS’ Innovation Lab in Delhi, India. Prior to joining TCS in 1998, Dr. Shroff had been on the faculty of the California Institute of Technology, Pasadena, USA and thereafter of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, India. He has also held visiting positions at NASA Ames Research Center in Mountain View, CA, and at Argonne National Labs in Chicago. In 1994 he was conferred the "Young Scientist Award" from the Department of Atomic Energy (Govt. of India).

Dr. Shroff has published over 30 research papers in the areas of computational mathematics, parallel computing, distributed systems, software architecture, software engineering, and information fusion. He has also written two books “Enterprise Cloud Computing” published by Cambridge University Press in 2010, and "The Intelligent Web", published by Oxford University Press in 2013. Dr. Shroff graduated from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, India, in 1985 and received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, NY, USA, in 1990. He has developed and taught this course in an adjunct capacity at IIT Delhi and IIIT Delhi. He has developed and taught a MOOC course in coursera “Web Intelligence and Big Data” in an adjunct capacity at IIT Delhi and IIIT Delhi

Deepak Padmanabhan
Queen's University Belfast, UK

Dr. Deepak Padmanabhan holds a faculty position in Computer Science at Queen's University Belfast, United Kingdom. He completed his B.Tech from Model Engineering College, Kochi and his M.Tech and PhD from Indian Institute of Technology Madras, all in Computer Science. His current research interests include data analytics, similarity search, information retrieval and natural language processing. Deepak has published over 40 research papers across major venues in Information and Knowledge Management. His work has led to 17 patent filings with US PTO and other worldwide patent bodies, of which 5 have been granted. Recently, he authored a book titled "Operators for Similarity Search" which was published by Springer in 2015. A Senior Member of the IEEE and the ACM, he is also the recipient of the INAE Young Engineer Award 2015, an award recognizing scientific work by researchers across engineering disciplines in India.
